Where we meet.Llandaff Rugby Club.

As with the summer run, there are two choices: long or longer.

Again the difference is a couple of miles, although here the routes rejoin further on from where they split.

This run heads up Western Avenue to Gabalfa roundabout, and includes a climb, so you can gauge the intentions of your companions immediately.

We take the subway under the roundabout and emerge on the Heath park side. A long jaunt round the park, past the University Hospital, takes us to Allensbank Road, and thence to the bottom of Roath Park.

Roath Park.Roath Park Lake. Of course, it looks different in winter and at night.

Here the runs split, the shorter version heads up the lake park on Lake Road East, climbing gently until the left turn onto Lake Road North, and a sharper and shorter hill, before dropping down after Heath Station.

The longer run breaks off past the recreation park, and takes in the sharp and long Penylan hill. It then takes in the seemingly endless (and undulating) trek through Cyncoed, before descending Rhyd-Y-Penau. After the roundabout and the Three Arches pub, the routes meet again.

A long drag on Heathwood Road takes us back to Birchgrove, and a left turn on Caerphilly Road steers us to Gabalfa roundabout again, and the run in home.

A decent map and more photos may be available one day
