Stage 6 route change details

Further details of the change we've had to apply to Stage 6, Barmouth to Dolgellau. These and any other last minute revisions will be summarised in a Final Instructions Briefing that will be sent to Team Captains, and restated at the pre-race briefing in Caernarfon Leisure Centre on Saturday morning

The start time of Stage 6 remains the same but the start will be from the bridge side of town - at the bottom of the climb to the bridge. There is a public garden area at this point, where runners can be registered and Stage 6 will start at the junction. Flying marshals will assist Changeover marshals and Team Marshals (LC Vets) to safe guard the start and control traffic. The route is only 9.1 miles and should be completed earlier than planned. Other key points as follows:

  • There is a significant event (RNLI naming ceremony) on the promenade, starting at 13:00
  • A large crowd is expected and parking will be limited and pavements busy
  • Start of Stage 6 has thus been moved to the bridge side of town, LL42 1EH (approx), near Davy Jones Locker in the public gardens at then end of the Quay Road.
  • Stage 6 timings and duties for marshals have also changed (see here the Stage 6 map and route instructions and timings)
  • Toilets are available near the station
  • Apologies for the change, and allow extra time, for any disruption to the pick up of runners completing Stage 5, and drop off of runners on Stage 6
  • Please remind runners to be courteous to members of the public

Stage 18 map correction (Rhyd -y-car to Navigation Park)

Many thanks to Laura for pointing out a slight inaccuracy in the Stage 18 map. I've updated! Feedback like this so helpful. Have a great weekend everyone..

2019 Stage Route Changes

Just a week to go!  We hope the training and prep goes well. But confirmation of two important route changes for 2019. Please keep an eye on this web site for news of these any other updates which may follow.

Due to a RNLI Life Boat naming ceremony taking place on Barmouth promonade on Saturday afternoon 8th June (time to be confirmed, but likely to attract a big crowd for this special event), Stage 6 is being slightly shortened. It will now start at the junction of the A496 and 'The Quay' adjacent to St David's Church. Please see the revised map for details. Further information is being sent to team captains.

Stage 11 also takes a new route out of Newtown this year following the completion of the bypass and other major roadworks. The map here. Again the route is slightly shorter - the ascent of this infamous 'Mountain Stage' is, however, now made even more 'challenging' as a consequence of. 'Swings and roundabouts' (with the emphasis on roundabouts!)

Runner registration closes Friday 31st May

A reminder to all Team Captains that the registration process closes tomorrow, Friday May 31st

A reminder also that a team can register pretty much as many runners as they like on the system. Runners registering will need to enter the usual details (name, address, DOB, sex, registration number, mobile number plus details of any medical conditions we need to be aware of).

Runners not registered won't be able to run in this year's race! Please contact Team Captains for details..

How old??

A good question of the ageist type received today at WCR HQ. To remind (quoting from the Reference Book..)

- Veterans are males aged 40+ and females 35+ on the day of the race (section A1.7)
- Runners aged 17 years upwards may run any stage. Runners aged 16 to 17 years may only run stages that are less than 9.94 miles (16K). Age on race day (section A1.9)

Please note all young (and less young) people..
