December 2001
- Hamilton Harriers 81st Annual 10 mile. Sandy Johnston ran 1:01:17, and was first male over 50 and 19th overall.
- Brackla Harriers Christmas Pudding 10k. Andy Cleves (13th), Keith Davies (14th), Simon Nurse (16th), and Dave Headon (20th) were 1st team and Julie Scholey, Carol Miller, and Julie Lewis were 1st ladies team. Clem of Penarth & Dinas soared from 58th last year to 11th this, and beat all our boys.
- Forest Of Dean Christmas Pudding. Andy Cleves, Dave Coles, and Matt Townsend ran this.
- Gwent League #3 Bridgend. Depleted numbers, and the first time the Goat hasn't run when he wasn't racing elsewhere in a very long time, if ever.
November 2001
- Richie and Yvonne Bullen raced the Brighton & Hove 10k. Richie finished 9th overall and 1st veteran in 32:12 in the men's race, while Yvonne ran a personal best of 41:12 in the women's race. Between them they collected the princely sum of £60. We understand that Graham Henry is advising on future contractural negotiations.
- Vets Cross-Country International. I think we acquitted ourselves well enough here. These results are the finishing times from the races, which were run concurrently - I know that Barry Johnston was fourth scorer (out or six runners) for Wales in the over 50s, but you'll have to work the rest out yourselves. I've done a page on our members.
- Sodbury Slog: NOT the same course as 2000. I haven't had time to go through these yet, but among those who ran were Dave Headon, Andy Cleves, Terry Caveney, Dave Coles (down here as unattached), Ian Law, Steve Lewis, Carol Miller, Dave Benion, and Matt Townsend.
- New York Marathon. Alan Mann ran 3:16:43 (3:16:09 net).
- Gwent League #2 Aberdare: How we did.
Earlier in 2001
- Karrimor International Mountain Marathon Simon Nurse and Andy Cleves were in Class B.
- Newport 10 Miles. We came third male team -- there don't seem to have been any female team races. Plus is Veterenne a real word? Roughly -- Dave Powell 53.52; Ron Rogers 54.18; Calum Cheshire 58.36; Terry Caveney 58.53; Richard Boon 59.37; Cai Britton 61.34; Michael Davies 62.24; Bill Fear 63.02; Dave Bright 63.18; Alan Mann 67.04; Christine Rossiter 72.12; Ceri Donovan 78.49. Apologies to anyone I missed. I've been asked how I managed to restrain myself from questioning the course distance. It's called diplomacy -- and I just let the times speak for themselves.
- Puma Stroud Half Marathon 12, Phil Cook 1:10:14; 304, Glenda Edwards 01:33:14; 338, Carol Miller 1:34:48; 426, Matthew Townsend 1:38:40; 866, Nicholas Edwards 01:55:39.
- Dublin City Marathon. I don't know if anyone did this. I know that Keith Lowther of San Domenico was going to, and we seem to have a representative at every race going. NB The actual result page is extremely big, hard to read, and doesn't list club affiliation.
- Frank Moritz at the Lausanne Marathon: for a new father with little time for training his 3:13:30 must be considered good.
- Gwent League Margam Park. How we did.
- Bristol Half or the 'Fun Run' in Steve Cram's words. They seem to have found the most inelegant way of displaying the results imaginable, and they don't list clubs. Among those I know ran were Keith McGeoch, Richard Boon, and Tracey Newman.
- Chicago Marathon, including Mal Firouz. Just for the record, previous winner Paul Evans, was first male veteran, and 23rd overall.
- Berlin Marathon, where Phil ran 2:32 and Mick a better than expected 2:34!
- Swansea Bay 10k I'd given up on this, but Ceri Donovan somehow emailed them to me. We won't ask how, readers.
- Lake Vyrnwy Half.
- Newport 5k series 3rd race.
- Club Time Trial 23 August 2001
- August Newport 5k.
- Cosmeston Relay Results, sorry that there aren't any names, but Clem wrote a spiel on the race.
- Lake Vyrnwy Marathon (Welsh Champs) Won by our old friend Harry Day, veteran of many battles with Sandy Johnston and Dave Williams, in 2:34, while San Dom's Paul Horvarth was 13th in 2:53. Dave Coles, who shocked himself by running a PB in Poole a fortnight after the Prague marathon, can't be upset with 2:57 (better than in the Czech Republic). Neath had a strong turnout, with Phil Bamsey running his 50th marathon in a not too deflating 3:10. Clive Osmond, who's been expected to break the 3 hours for years finished in 3:14. Cled Jones nipped under 3:30 (not bad for a 60+ athlete). Liz Clarke, who's been injured for ages, came third in her age group in 3:40. Gil John who's run the Barry 40, and several other strange races, was 100th finisher in 3:46.
- British Veterans Track & Field Meet Mick ran in the M45 5000m and Richie ran the M40 5000m and 1500m 5th or Mick and 2nd (both times) for Richie! Keith ran in the Vet 50 1500m.
- Welsh Championships. Speaking of wins, Phil Cook decisively won the steeplechase, and Richie Bullen was the first veteran in the 1500m, taking the Croups 40+ record in the process. He came last as well, but it was a very brave last.
- Our results from the Poole 10k.
- Dave Lloyd in Stockholm. Not that he'll be pleased; he went well for the first 30k though.
- Brackla 10k. Dave Headon, Ceri Donovan, Mel James, and Ralph Davey ran this along with Ceri Williams (I didn't even know he'd left!)
- Prague Marathon. Dave Coles ran 2:58 here for 137th place. I had to contact the site admisitrators to discover how to wangle this out.
- Veterans Road Relay Results Did we not do well?
- How we did in London.
- Florence Marathon. Stuart Reeves galloped round this. If you can find the results on this, you're a cleverer person than I am.
- The Sodbury Slog run by Julian Baker, Dave Bennion, Terry Caveney, Barry Johnston, Carol Miller, and Dave Weeden. Owing to an oversight by Juan Antonio Samaranch, drug tests were not administered following this race, and a rerun is being demanded by a certain runner and his supporters.
- New York City Marathon. Mal Firouz ran this in 3.04.
- Munich Marathon as run by Frank Moritz and Dick Brewer.
