Pontypridd Roadents Reverse 10: Les Croupiers Running Club

A strong headwind in the final two miles cost Martin Rees his chance of revising his own M55 10 miles record. He finished an agonising 4 seconds adrift in 53:25.

A further problem was lack of company. Richard Gardiner, in high mileage training for the London Marathon, won the race for the third time, leading from gun to tape in 51:33. But there was no one else to push Martin, meaning he was left effectively in a time trial situation throughout. Ironically, had the race been held at 8.00 AM, conditions would have been ideal, but the wind seemed to get stronger as the morning wore on (start was 10.00 AM).
