2006 results are now available.
Photos of the 2005 race are up as well.
Run in December, in conditions meterologists term ‘horrible’, this is a real man’s race, although women are allowed to do it too. As the minimum age for entry is 35, there has been alcohol in the ‘goody bag’ on occasions.
The Old Father Time Road Race is open only to vets (which as of January 1, 2007 means anyone of 35 and older on the day). It is run on a two lap course around Pontcanna Fields/Sophia Gardens. Registration is at 12 noon from Llandaff Rugby Club. Very limited changing facilities.
£5 registered athletes; £6 others. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Les Croupiers R.C.’ SSAE to John Griffin, 22 Heol Waun y Nant, Whitchurch, Cardiff, CF4 1JZ.
Entries will be open on race day, at no extra cost. There is usually a queue, so get there early!
We would also appreciate it if you printed off and filled in the form before you arrive, if you wish to enter on the day. It makes the process smoother.

There will be prizes for the first three finishers, and for age category winners (and perhaps lower places, depening on entry numbers). These are usually bottles of wine.
The goody bag will probably contain minatures of spirits. If you don’t want yours, someone else will!
The race incorporates the Welsh Master Athletics Association championships (only open to members of the WMAA). Prizes will be medals.
This is a rough map, drawn with the Gmaps pedometer, which measured the route as 4.909 miles (not bad, based on guesswork!). NB the second lap is longer than the first.

The race starts at the Western Avenue end of the road through Pontcanna Fields and heads down the ‘marked mile’ past the playing fields and the Glamorgan Cricket Ground. The first lap turns left (toward the river) just before the Welsh Institute of Sport, and then left again to head back up the river. At the footbridge at Blackweir, it turns left along the footpath (this is the only part, or parts, as you come this way again, not on concrete), back to the road. Another left turn takes you down the same as the first lap, this time continuing past the WIS toward the gates on Cowbridge Road East, there you take the footpath back to the river and follow the river back up to Blackweir again. After crossing the playing fields this time, you turn right with about 600m to go back to the start.
