Danny Rossiter

Daniel’s one of our teenage members who completes all his running training in a swimming pool. Despite the fact that he prefers to compete, rather than train, he appears to be getting faster and faster.

Tina Rossiter

If you are going to a race outside of Cardiff take Tina with you not only will she have a map, accurate directions, spare pins etcshe’ll also have a supply of goodies for after the race. These range form sports drinks, bananas, and rolls to chocolate mini rolls which she doesn’t even eat but brings because she knows one of her training partners (whose initials are CD) does! You’ll also be kept amused with lots of lively conversation. Tina ran her first half marathon last year in Port Talbot, where she was joint first lady — impressive huh?

Mal Rowson

Mal Rowson in the Vets Cross-Country Relays. Has been running with Les Croups since 1984 and is never happier than when floundering at the back of a Gwent League.

Always happy to give advice on unique running styles. (Just thought I’d get a mention on the page for myself!)

Mal was the first member to write about herself.

Julie Scholey

Julie Scholey and Jackie Brace in the 2004 Firewor. Julie can also be seen, unusually for her, wearing a dress, at her wedding.

I can claim to have been told to stop drinking by a doctor. Late in the afternoon of my first Beaujolais Run I rather inarticulately offered to buy Julie a pint. I’ve had quite enough she replied, and so have you. She was right of course.

Scholey (as she’s generally and affectionately known) takes running a little less seriously since the birth of daughter Holly, a decision which has left the women’s coach far from gruntled. Grumbled Derek, It’s all very well for dilettantes like McColgan and Masterkova to go around dropping sprogs like teenagers in St Mellons, but my athletes should get their priorities right.

She still turns cartwheels after most events.

Andrew Sedgmond

A classic triathlete who lives near Rhoose and practices speedwork on the local runway.

Although a builder and double-glazing man by trade, he has never been known to show his rear cleavage unknowlingly.

Local police have seen his motorbike, but only through speed camera lenses.

Colin Slocombe

Better known by his nickname “Flash”. This was given him by Woody many years ago due to his outstanding ability to take photographs. Problem was, the object didn’t often end up in the frame!Flash is the self-styled Race Director of the Castles Relay. Everyone in the Alexander Pub in Caernarfon knows that. He also has a detailed knowledge of all B&B establishments in Caernarfon town, and isn’t afraid to tell anyone within earshot. Having said that, the race just wouldn’t be the same without Flash & Ellen.Every club has a “Flash” or someone similar. But no other club has the original.

Paul Smith

Julie Scholey and Jackie Brace in the 2004 Firewor. Now you see him, now you don’t. Paul has been around an awfully long time. And injured for only a little less. He’s still one of the talents of the club. (Jeff will have the league tables, I can’t remember where he falls exactly, but top five for the marathon, and he was reputedly a decent footballer before that.

He teaches chemistry in Brecon, and Mick would know more details than I do.

Liz Sowter

Liz Sowter in the Fair Trade 5k.

Kelvin Sullivan

Memory can play strange tricks, especially as we get older. Not Kelvin’s. When Mick found a 10 Mile race result from 1987, where Kelvin apparently only ran 59:23, Kelvin’s mind reached back fourteen years and he confidently pronounced that that couldn’t have been himhe’d given his number to someone else. Not that he could recall who.

Pictures of Kelvin appeared in the February 2002 Ace.
