This Sunday - The Barry 40
Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 3:04PM
I'm surprised that Mick has not placed a post reminding you of this epic event this Sunday.
The Barry 40 stories are legend as is Mick's comentary. So pop over to Barry's Jenner Park for a day of fun filled frolics following frustrated fools flayling in flip flops facing the formidible Forty. Barry also boasts limitless sunshine, ample parking and even a Waitrose.
More background on the race can be found on the Barry 40 wing of the site.

Do we get a t-shirt like that for turning up?
I think I saw Mick flogging them from his car boot.
There's a lot of sport on telly this weekend - rugger, F1, footy of course, not to mention the athletics from Qatar...
All seems to fade into insignificance though when set alongside the heroics that will be witnessed at tomorrow's Barry 40
Best of luck to everyone who is racing. Most of us can only dream of running such an event !
Thanks, Tim. I couldn't have put it better myself. I'm still in the process of analysing the results, but I'm delighted to report on 4 super runs by the Croups athletes. First home in 6th place was Jen Salter, who clocked a marvellous 5:19:21 on her debut, and finished second lady. Jen looked strong throughout and this should give her confidence for Marathon des Sables next month. Gary Hyatt was next, 8th place in 5:47:45. This represented a new Welsh Over 60 record, and was just reward for recent increased mileage, and a Welsh bronze medal was a bonus. Loretta Daley was 9th, in a new PB 5:55:15, which will delight her. This also gave her third lady overall, as well as a bronze medal in the Welsh Championship. Alan Mann was 10th in 6:14:03, which was more than 15 minutes quicker than last year. Loretta and Alan's performances are the more worthy after their fire at home over the New Year, and subsequest domestic upheaval.
There were 15 starters and 11 finishers and drama aplenty, which you can read about soon. Also, the sun shone, but then again, we expect that in Barry.
It was another great day for the club, as many Croups came to lap score, act as drinks attendents or generally support. Thanks for yet again proving that we're the greatest club on the planet.
I think everyone who gets involved in this event is truly inspirational - whether you run it or volunteer.
One day I will do it. Before I'm turn a vet (that's in 5 years and 8 months). You can hold me to it.
Well done to everyone - in particular to Jen, who, last time I saw her (in Bilbao) could barely walk due to an ankle injory.

And just to add to Liz's post above, I also find journalists who turn up and provide copy in the local paper inspirational!
(As I expect most of you don't realise the significance of that remark, Liz used to work for the Barry & District News!)
Oh the good ol' days! The report we published was all your words, Mick. I recall that it needed hardly any subbing!
Next challenge is to get a journalist to take part...
