David Furness - RIP

David Furness (13/8/75 – 3/10/09)

It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of one of our members, David Furness. David was tragically killed in a motorbike accident on Saturday.

Hearing that anybody you know has been taken in such a way gives you a stirring feeling, but what hit me more with this news was that I had seen David that morning and actually processed his finishing result at Cardiff parkrun.

David joined the club in May having started to come along to the Club, David’s introduction to the Club had come via parkrun which he started attending back in January. David quickly found a group to run with on Club nights – fellow new starter Chris Morgan, Tony Dorsett, Richard Crawford, Geoff Wright, et al. Since joining David has represented the Club at 7 races and was looking forward to running the Cardiff Half Marathon on 18th October. During his time at parkrun David had improved his time by 4:51, bringing his time down from 27:01 to 22:10.

On behalf of the Club I would like to pass on all of our deepest sympathies to his family.

As soon as I have any further details I will pass them on.

Unusually, I'm lost for words. Terrible, terrible news. Deepest condolences to his family and friends.

I saw him at the Park Run a few weeks back and he was flying, and wearing a club vest

Phil (and others who support the Pk Run) should take solace from the fact that he enjoyed doing this so much

- and that he ran last Saturday...
