Committee Profiles

Jeff Aston is a founder member of Les Croupiers (1981) and a London Marathon Ever Present. He was previously Vice Chair of the Club’s Committee and is now one of the General Members. Jeff is our statistician and he organises the Handicap 10 and the Race of Truth. He is also the Welsh Castles Relay’s Race Referee and produces the results for the Gwent League. Though he may run slower these days, he’s lost none of his determination.

Richie Bullen joined the Club in 1982 shortly after it was formed and became Club Treasurer in 1988. He enjoys cross country and his preferred road distances are 10K and 10 miles. His current running highlights are “weeks when I’m not injured and a good Club run on Thursday evenings with fellow running aficionados”.  He’s run most, if not all, of the Gwent League and Welsh Castles Relays.

Karen Chadwell joined the club in 2011 and loves running and racing with other club members. She prefers longer distances and has discovered a love of cross country and off road running. She already knew about her love of cake! She’s trained as a Leader in Running Fitness and helps to run Croups off the Couch. She’s also one of the club’s Welfare Officers.

Phil Cook joined the club in 1999 and has been the Club’s Captain since 2007.  He started running at school and has represented Wales numerous times. He’s continuously busy organising races, training and fitness sessions and he’s an official course measurer. Phil started the first parkrun outside of England in Cardiff in 2008 and is there most Saturdays as the Run Director.  He also leads Cardiff Running Events and is the Co-Race Director for the Welsh Castles Relay.

Graeme Donnan joined the Committee in January 2018 as Vice Chair. His preferred runs are along country trails rather than on tarmac and to encourage trail running he initiated the Club's off road championship. Graeme is very enthusiastic about running as well as cycling and mountaineering. His love of the outdoors led him to compete in many mountain marathons, although by his own admission he often gets lost and rarely finds many checkpoints!

John Griffin is the Club’s Chairman. He joined the club shortly after it was formed and was a formidable runner in his time! Irrepressible John dedicates a huge amount of his time to the Club – from putting up the tents and storing the kit to time keeping and handing out club vests. He’s also Co-Race Director for the Welsh Castles Relay and an official for the Gwent League and most major races in South Wales.

Alan Mason is the Membership Secretary and he joined the club in 2004. What he likes most about running is getting out into the open air and he runs on the Taff Trail often as he lives close by. He’s raced all distances from 800m to marathons. Besides running he enjoys cycling, reading and listening to music.

Tina Rossiter is the Club Secretary and she joined the club in 2000. When she started she never considered herself a runner but she found the club very welcoming and encouraging, and over the years she’s made some great friends. She says she’s not the quickest in her age group but feels it’s important to have a go. She has also volunteered many times at the Club’s races and parkrun.

Kate Russell joined the Club in 2014. After helping out organising one of the Club’s social gatherings she took over the role of Social Secretary and has done a great job putting together the Christmas and Summer events. She runs 5K to half marathon races but also ran sub 4 hours at London Marathon and divides her time between Cardiff’s and Parc Bryn Bach’s parkruns.

Julie Scholey has been a club member for around 30 years and loves competing – from 100m track to marathons. She doesn’t get down to the club as often as she’d like but you’ll find her at most of the Club’s championship races. Her daughter describes her as “nuts, never stops, enjoys her wine”.  Julie would add “young at heart” to that. She’s always cheerful and smiling.

Gabrielius Stuokus joined the Club in April 2016 after coming to Cardiff from Lithuania. He then started running competitively - from track sprinting and cross country to half marathons and the Welsh Castles Relay. He has also travelled extensively as a parkrun tourist.

Amanda Thompson joined the club in 2011 having been introduced through parkrun and has notched up 10 marathons plus countless other races.  She served as the Welsh Castles Relay Race Administrator from 2011-2018 and does a lot of ‘behind the scenes’ work for the forum, results database, website and social media. She sometimes plods around Bute Park at lunch times as she works at the Sport Wales National Centre.

David E Williams joined the club in 2009 and has run a huge variety of races on various terrains including the Grand to Grand Ultra and the Great Wall marathon.  Dave organises the annual trip for the South Wales running clubs to the London Marathon. He’s one of the flying marshals for the Welsh Castles Relay having been trained in Traffic Management.
