Exceptional results, special announcements, births, marriages, and deaths, that sort of thing.

Well, not quite, but I couldn’t think of a better title. Just to say good luck to our Ladies Team who will be representing the club in Moscow this coming Saturday (6th September). The team is Julie Scholey, Heidi Williams, Wendy Edwards (the smart one!) and Tammy Thomas. Team Manager is Annie Conroy.
The team will in effect be representing Wales, as Les Croups were the winners of the Welsh Half Marathon Championships in Tywyn in May. Try and stay off the vodka, ladies.

You know it makes sense, and anyway, we don’t need an excuse to do it.
Friday 5th September, in the Cayo Arms in Cathedral Road, from, say, 8.00 PM onwards. Whenever you can get there. This is not limited to Croups only, We like to think we’re a sociable club, so it’s the more the merrier.
We have a cunning plan (however): to get you to sign a membership form whilst under the influence!
If you can’t make it this time, don’t worry. Better still, make a proposal for what you’d like for next time. See you there!

Who needs the Atkins diet when there is marathon running? Before and After (though there has been no shortage of pictures on the web and in the papers over the past few days.
I spent a lazy Sunday morning trying to watch Breakfast With Frost and listen to Broadcasting House at the same time. I was really hoping for an interview with old Ali above, but had to make do with Virginia Ironside and Gyles Brandreth reviewing the papers. Brandreth commented on the longevity of marriages in the UK and the US, and Virginia Ironside noted that his marriage had lasted longer than the average. “Ah,” he replied, quick as the proverbial flash, “My wife doesn’t know I do things like this. She thinks I’ve gone out for a run.” So there are real runners and pretend runners out there fighting for your votes.
Sebastian Coe still runs of course. He turned out for Ceri Donovan’s London Marathon training group last year, although Ceri thought he was Steve Cram.
Is the way to revive road races to drag along a local funtionary for a rousing speech?
Probably not.

There is still time to enter the 1 Hour Track Race at Leckwith Stadium on 7 September. There ought to be entries on the day, but if you want to enter in advance, you can also send entries with £6 and a 28p SSAE envelope to the Race Director, Cardiff Athletic Stadium, Leckwith Road, Cardiff CF1 8AZ. Application forms are available (622 KB Word format).

I’m getting to an age when most of my invitations seem to be to funerals, so another wedding is always a bonus. When I decided on “Births, marriages, and deaths, that sort of thing.” as one of the taglines for this page, I didn’t realise how many of the second — and how few of the other two — we’d see.
This is a long-winded way of saying that David “Wind-Up” Price got married to his long-time girlfriend Sarah over the Bank Holiday weekend. I’ll add a photo when I get a decent one.
(And if I’d been invited to Dave Roberts and Carolyn Llewelyn’s do, I’d have written about that too, but I didn’t, so there.)

Tracey Hinton of Cardiff AAC picked up gold medals in the World IBSA Championships 400 and 800 metres.
Tracey is totally blind and runs in the B1 and B2 categories.
She won the 400m in 60.06, and the 800m in 2:17.66 beating Spain’s Santamarta Purificacion’s world record of 2:19.06.
She texted her friend Charles Jones to say that she was taken for dope testing directly after the race, a procedure which lasted two and half hours.
The photo shows Tracey with her guide Stephan also Welsh, and a Sports Science student at UWIC, Cardiff.

We’ve been here before. Oh yes.
I’d considered switching to Movable Type before, but the workers resisted it. (You may know what Mick is like when it comes to learning new tricks.) However, there are serious vulnerabilities with Greymatter (the old system) and php, and though we kept them at bay, I got too fed up with teenage hackers trying to vandalise the site.
So losing the old server has a couple of bright sides. It took me nearly a week to work out how to connect to the database on the new server (I knew it was there because the bulletin board works.) Ace can start again, with new contributor Geran ’Ironman’ Hughes, and the bulletin board has a second chance.
