Blokes night out. Sort of. »
There's a new kid in town
November 29, 2004
In recognition of Phil’s excellent work for the club over the past few years and his huge input to Les Croupiers Triathletes, Mr Cook has officially been given the job of Vice Captain. I will take this opportunity to personally thank him for his support over the last 12 months. Sometimes there are not enough hours in the day to juggle work, study, training and club duties, and Phil has always been prepared to step into the breach whenever necessary. Thanks Phil.
So if I am not at an event or at the club, Phil is your man. The wheels of Les Croupiers administration will turn even more efficiently. For a start, he has got a much better memory than me, he always (ALWAYS) has a pen and he is a demon with a cowbell.

Congrats and thanks - from a novice grateful for those who take timeout to wield cowbells, pens and much more on behalf of others. But why not 'Captain of Vice' ??? (Rift Valley fossil evidence confirms this joke is older than running itself...)
Oh well Phil, can you live up to Simons expectations, I guess time will be the judge.
Make sure you have that Cow Bell on standby for those Thursday evenings of which Simon is not present to give a speech.
er, I couldn't think of a better person to be on the team. As he was a coach for a dozen international athletes in his prime, he will definately suite the job of vice captain, welldone phil!
Nick, if you're going to make the "A" Team on Sunday, you'd better start getting some earlier nights.
Mick, Well I think Nick has to firstly do some serious training to make the A team.
He has not beaten me yet, and that should not be too difficult at the moment with my running over the last few months having taken a backward step.
Dave,
Beating you has never been a pre-requisite for "A" Team selection! We operate on a slightly less Dave-centric benchmark. The key is to perform consistently well against your peers, preferably over a muddy surface. Thankfully both you and Nick do. The results of the last Gwent league suggest that Nick is well in with a shout of making the "A" team again. Teams will be sorted after final numbers are confirmed on Thursday.
I'm sure your comments will spur both of you to even better things. There's nothing like a bit of competition!
Dave, I'm a little surprised at you're being brave / daft enough to put your head over the parapet on the subject of the Gwent League. There are FOUR laps on Sunday, and you have to complete ALL of them to even have a shout of making the "A" team!
I've deleted the last three comments as off-topic as well as being potentially embarrassing.
Please try to stay with the matter under discussion.
We have a Censor. That surly casnt or shouldnt be allowed
Absolutely right Dave and we welcome that steadying hand. The topic of course is...... Phil's new role. On that very subject, if I am not at the club first thing on Sunday, it means that circumstances have dictated that I need to take my own vehicle. In the event of this, Phil will be there to co-ordinate (if it's needed). Remember that the bus will be leaving the club promptly at 9.30. This post is also being added to the Gwent League arrangements thread.
Alan, you appear to have a view on censorship? So you think anything goes?
Do you think that anyone has the right to divert attention from the original subject matter? Isn't that censorship of sorts?
I would like to say sorry i thought it was somthing which is actualy on one of the other comments.
I'm glad that all Phil's hard work in setting up the Tri Club is being officially acknowledged. I love the outings on the bike and can't wait for duathlons at Llandow next summer. But we need some more girlies on the bikes for gender balance.
What's this Phill has a new role? I always thought that it was common knowledge that he was always second incommaned as the pressent and past captain's would tell you since he's been in the club he has brought inspiration to many. Anyway was it a ham roll that simon was on about as i have only seen hin eat sandwiches.
That's exactly the daft sort of humour which has been missing from the Croups for far too long. About time you got your arse back in here, and bring the athlete of the family with you!
But mick Megan is not old enough to come down the club just yet and i dont think that i could keep up with her at the pressent moment.Anyway I will be back once i have got over this cold i have had for the past 2 weeks, hope everyone is OK and i will see you all soon
