Rob Atkinson - Update

November 02, 2004

This entry supplements Rob Atkinson - R.I.P. (30 Oct). Thanks to Phil Hexter and Sean Tresilian for their comments. Some more info. regarding Rob's funeral. It will be on Monday 8th November, starting 12.15 PM at Porthkerry Road Methodist Church, Barry. Thereafter burial at Barry Cemetary and then to the Cwm Ciddy, Port Road West. The following may seem a little unusual, but for those of you who knew Rob well, totally in keeping with his life.

Monday will be a celebration of Rob's life, please note - A CELEBRATION. Rob will be buried in his running kit and trainers. There will also be a map and compass in the coffin, though Rob's sense of direction was always better than mine. He has also invited runners past and present, to attend in their kit i.e. vest and shorts (if their inhibitions allow). Being a rugby follower also, Rob invites rugby fans to attend in their Welsh rugby shirts. Please don't feel out of place, Rob discussed all this with his son Gareth in his final hours, and this is what he wants.

Rob lived his all too short life to the full, and this reflected his passions of running, drinking and socialising. I could just about match him at running (mainly because he was by nine years my senior) but when it came to drinking and socialising he was a man without equal (and believe me, I tried very hard!)

I know he will be sorely missed by many - his enthusiasm and love of life was such that it was difficult not to share his passions. I'm sure that those whose life he touched still do.
