Cardiff Marathon Photos

October 06, 2004

I volunteered to help Mel James, so I watched the start of both races and went to the finish to manually timekeep on the marathon in case the chip system went down. (It didn’t.) I took very few decent pictures: these are all I’ve got which are in focus.

Does not the photo of Mick encapulate the misery of marathon running? A faceless grimace atop a legless straining body. I shall print it out, and should I ever, in a foolish moment, consider running a marathon again, I will look at it .... and forget about running a marathon again. Richie I don't know what you mean, I think that is the best photo of Mick I've seen for a while. Posted by: Phil Cook at October 6, 2004 06:21 PM
Richie, thank you for those kind words. Didn't you have yet another birthday last week? Surely, I can only conclude that the only excuse you have for not wanting to do another marathon is that you're TOO OLD!! Take a leaf out of Gil John's book. 220 marathons completed and still thirsting for more. No wonder Alan Mann spoke about him in such glowing terms at last night's announcements. Perhaps as a first step I'll find a faceless half marathon round an industrial estate, and invite you to come and have a go as part of your "rehabilitation".
