Castle Coombe ?
August 31, 2004
The last of the short course duathlons takes place tomorrow evening at Castle Coombe motor racing circuit. The race starts at 7pm and comprises a 2mile run, 10 mile bike and a 2 mile run to finish. Last month we had a wonderful turn out of athletes prompting the race announcer to give us a big plug over the tannoy. The evening was capped off with a quick pie and a pint in one of the many fine pubs in the Castle Coombe area.
So if you fancy a nice short duathlon, hotly pursued by a slap up dinner and pint of Ushers (not the drivers of course), then head East on the M4 tomorrow evening. The venue for the meal will be the Salutation Inn in Castle Coombe. Unfortunately circumstances may conspire to prevent my attendance, but keep an eye out for Clare, Heidi, Phil, John and Martin Clissold who will be duking it on the tarmac (and yes, Phil will have membership forms for the triathlon section. I knew you'd ask....)

Big CONGRATULATIONS go to Clare, who has become Les Croupiers Triathletes first ever WINNER by winning the Female Super Vets agegroup.Heidi in only her second attempt made an improvement of 3:53, so watch out for her next season. I look forward to seeing you all out and about, and any new interested members are more than welcome to join us.
See you on the Road - Phil
Wow! Look what happens when I don't turn up! Massive congratulations to Clare (all that hard work has paid off. Well done). Well done also to Heidi who clearly has invested in both the right bike and the right training! Also another excellent effort by Phil, these are very (VERY) competitive races. I'm looking forward to competing against him next year. It should spur us both on to better things (providing we are both injury free).
I'm not sure how many other 'supervets' there were. More important was the fact Croups Triathletes got an honourable mention amidst those illustrious English tri clubs - the first of many honours to come for us, no doubt, as we progress. I am glad to report It was much less painful than those hellish sessions with Ajax. Those rides must have helped, though, because I, too, was three minutes or so up on last time. The Salutation Inn proved a very congenial hosterly, with delicious meals of gargantuan proportions. Clare
havn't you got to be able to say on your bike.lol
Well done to Martin Clissold - some excellent results throughout the series. With that big '5' '0' next year things are looking good.
Keep those younger competitors honest !
