Gwent league #2
October 29, 2003
The second round of this season’s Gwent league will be held on Sunday the 2nd November at a new venue — Leckwith Athletics Stadium. The race will incorporate the South Wales x-country championships and all eligible runners will be entered by the club as a matter of course. If you plan to run, please let myself know for the men’s teams and Sue Neal for the Ladies.

As the champs require runners to wear a number, please bring some pins with you.
Thanks!
Felt quite dizzy after that one. It was like running into a plague of ninety degree bends.
However, a think a vote of thanks should be recorded for Stumpy. He worked his balls off to put this fixture on, and his efforts are greatly appreciated.
Well said Mick. I didn't believe that a course could be manufactured out of the limited space around the stadium. More twisty and turny than a twisty, turny thing, it proved a great success. The only thing it lacked was a hill of some description. A great irony when you consider the stadium lies in the shadow of Leckwith hill. Graham deserves a pat on the back.
On the team front, another excellent performance with superb packing in the high 20's/low 30's. Yet another dilemma for the Captain's award (though one I will always be pleased to have).
Jeff Aston tells me that results will be up on Tuesday.
I have to admit that the course wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Although if it is going to be used again; and Tony Collins said that they are going to keep it; I think that they need to try and extend the lap so that we are only doing 2 1/2 or 3 laps. But other than that not too bad.
For one moment I thought I saw Geran Hughes at the Gwent yesterday. On closer inspection I realised I was mistaken. He looked a bit like Geran, sounded like Geran, and was eating as only Geran can. But, as he was spectating and not competing, he was actually a fake Geran. Where is the REAL Geran and when will he start competing again for Les Croupiers?!
I second Mick's congratalutions to Stumpy, course designer par excellence. I was one of those dubious as to what to expect at Leckwith but enjoyed the twists, bends and lack of hills.
G'day all,
we're getting ready for our own race,"Melbourne Cup"..it's FRIGHTENING when you try to pick a winner. Sara has picked the last 8 but she's still sleeping. So what has this to do with the Gwent? Nothing but l wish l was there to run that course as the winding, twisting courses vis-a-vis Comeston is the type of course l love.
Congrats again to all the teams.
What about this as the Gwent theme song to the tune of...Fluer Deslyl(?)
"We are the team, Les Croups me lads
We wear the colours red and green
We will always run for victory, we will always run it mean
Win or lose, we do and die
In defeat we'll always try
Les Croups, Les Croups
The (Welsh) club we hold so dear
Gwent cross country champs we'll be this year"
regards, Eero, Sara, Aidan, and Elana
Eero,
Is this a bid for Poet Laureate fame? Though our singing voices are open to question, or commitment is not, so I hope your last line rings true, and we do indeed win the Gwent.
The alternative for me of course, is to listen to John Cox bang on again about how we won the gwent league when he was captain. Aaaarrgghhh!
P.S. I do mention John in a fond appreciative way.
Thanks for all the comments, we've had good feedback with regards to the course and general organisation and we will where possible act on any sugestions we received. We have a Schools cross country event booked in for January and have had enquiries on booking it for cross country events and bike races.
What happened to Rob Jones he told me the race was his !
standard of the web site is superb !
