I think most people are aware that a sub-committee is in the process of evaluating the existing club kit and recommending some adjustment to design and fabrics (colours remain unchanged). This process is now fairly advanced and the sub-committee has produced some recommendations on which we will shortly be polling opinion.
1. The current club vest is being modernised slightly by raising the hoop to just under the arms (allowing our name to be clearly visible when a number is pinned to the vest), the hoop will ‘curl’ slightly around the body and the club name will be reprinted on the back. This will be our ‘championship’ vest and need to be worn in any national championship or league situation e.g. Road relays, Gwent League. Every effort is being made to reduce the number of seams and replace the material with a wicking alternative. The vest remains recognisable as distinctly our design.
2. After a long process of whittling down suggestions, the sub-committee has produced 3 designs to be offered as a ‘second’ vest for non-championship races or training. The colours remain red and green but the design is significantly altered, thus replacing the old ‘white’ summer vest, which can occasionally be seen when Mick’s other kit is in the wash.
We have attempted to make the process as democratic as possible by opening up the sub-committee to anybody that was interested and offering three designs which are now available to be voted upon. So please keep a look out for individuals armed with colourful pieces of paper. We can’t afford to have any Florida style voting recounts at Les Croups…
Update (DW). I’m going to set up a page for online voting. The fairest way to do this is to ask for names and AAW membership number, that way we can tell who hasn’t voted and give them a paper vote in the club. It also means one member one vote, which is somewhat hard to guarantee on the web. So unless anyone has any objections, I’ll set it up today or tomorrow.
