What nutters, eh? Sunday was generally agreed to be one of the worst days to run a distance race. The icy wind down the home straight was particularly killing. The first four at 10 miles dropped out. Our own Andy Cleves finished a creditable second. Winner John Pares ("Maybe one to watch today" in Mick’s programme notes) judged it very well, and looked smooth all the way to the finish. Hats off to his courage and physical toughness: Andy wore leggings and a hat throughout. John, with a number 0 haircut and a polish raced without any head covering and in shorts.

I’ve some photos on the photos page. (No, I still haven’t written all the code yet; nor I have written the replacement for this crappy software. It’s harder than it looks.) Results and race report.

On last week’s topic, Matt Townsend reminded me that Sonia O’Sullivan is to run for Australia in the Commonwealths.

I was impressed at how many Croups runners finished the race despite the awful conditions & many dropouts from other clubs.

Well done Andy, Terry, Alan, Dick, (not to mention Loretta of C AAC), and hard luck Gary - it was tough enough recording lap times from the shelter of the grandstand, never mind actually running in that wind.

Good to see the LC mob not being phased out by a bit of wind! (plenty of that at the club anyway!!). Sorry I missed this years event - sounds like conditions would have been to my liking! Seriously though well done all - damned fine effort!

We would like to thank Ian & paul for time keeping for us. The girls who were standing out in the blustering wind. And Mick for a well organised race. See you next year.
