[Previous entry: Gloucester 20 Mile Road Race] [Current Ace] [Next entry: Track Training: A cautionary tale]
It may be a little early to consider an autumn marathon, but Ace has heard that there will be a Cardiff Marathon this year.
Sensibly, the organisers have changed the date to the 28th of September so that the race no longer clashes with the Cardiff and Swansea 10ks. Also sensibly, the route will be changed to cut out the link road: the new course will be two more or less equal laps. The third innovation follows from the new route. In order to get the numbers up, there are plans for a half marathon to be held on the same day. The return of the Cardiff Half is particularly welcome.
Naturally, Ace cannot reveal our sources, but the race should be announced in the next couple of weeks in the South Wales Echo. You can see then if we're were right or not.
Welcome back the Cardiff Half. I have fond memories of the race from way back when having something of a stomach problem to contend with, I ran off the course into a dear old ladies house in Cathays begging use of her bog on the way. Anyway, I legged it upstairs, pebbledashed the bathroom, emitted a groan of relief and set off again thanking her profusely (I was sensitive enough not to offer my hand to shake) on the way out and legging it off down the street again to creep in with a time I would have problems matching today (but still not any good though). I still wince at times when I think of said old lady climbing up the stairs to her newly decorated bathroom.
May be we need a new thread on the mid-run dump as a particular pleasure of life on the road?

Given that S.Wales road runners are well catered for in September with the Cardiff & Swansea 10 kms, it would be welcome to see this race scheduled instead for October/November. If I recall correctly there was not a road race worthy of note put on over that period last year. Why cram 3 high profile races into 4 weeks ? A Cardiff half marathon would be very well supported - but why not give the runners a decent slot ? Or is the race not being put on for the benefit of South Wales road running ?!!

Peter, there was me thinking that you were one of the more refined members of the club. Have you been taking lessons from John Cox?
